Yet more breaking news on Kalamazoo Oil Spill and Enbridge
I hate to sound like a broken record, but more and more evidence is coming to light about Enbridge and their tactics while attempting to clean the Kalamazoo River in Southwest Michigan. The latest comes from a Texas television station (KBTV) , it reports that 42 people hired to clean up the oil spill were arrested on suspicion of being illegal immigrants. As I spoke about yesterday, U.S Rep. Mark Schauer previously raised suspicions about the use of illegal immigrants during the cleanup. Enbridge claims it requires all contractors to meet local and state labor laws. They also state that the workers had all the necessary documents. Wouldn't it be nice if these oil companies took responsibility for their actions instead of looking for the quick cheap fix. With the economy in Michigan struggling, I assume there was not a lack of people willing to help. If contractors need to meet local and state labor laws wouldn't hiring Michigan residents for the cleanup make the most sense? You have to give it up to Enbridge for their creativity at least (sarcasm). I can just imagine the board meeting now. How can we strip the Michigan residents of their
legal rights and get this cleaned up as cheap as possible? Let's pressure residents to sign waivers and charter two buses from Texas with cheap labor. How disgusting!
