Michigan suing to keep Asian Carp out of Lake Michigan
Two weeks ago, a federal judge held an initial hearing on the Asian Carp situation and decided to schedule hearings in early September. Finally, someone is taking this seriously! Being an avid big lakes fisherman, I hate seeing this process move so slowly. All it takes is a small breeding population in Lake Michigan and it could have devastating effects. Just close down the whole canal! Unfortunately we are taking on the State of Illinois, more specifically Chicago, which happens to be the city of the current president Barack Obama. You think he wants to upset all the constituents of his home state? DNA of
Asian Carp was reportedly found past the electric fish barrier that was supposed to keep them out of the Great Lakes. In case you haven't heard, the Asian Carp is a new invasive species that could possibly threaten the ludicrous $7 billion dollar a year fishing industry in the great lakes. These carp reproduce and grow extremely quickly and could easily destroy a large portion of the Biomass within Lake Michigan. The Michigan Attorney General’s office approved and applauded the decision. The case will at least now be heard and expert witnesses can now testify. Earlier in the year the Supreme Court decided not to take on the case, a major disappointment for all great lakes outdoor enthusiasts. Hopefully this will get the wheels moving and these
Asian carp can be eradicated forever! If you haven't seen video of these fish, it's really a must see. These fish will jump 10' out of the air making boating unpleasant and downright dangerous.
