Medical Marijuana Raids Being Swept Under Rug

The Department of Justice continues to raid medical marijuana dispensaries, even in certain states where marijuana has been legalized to treat medical conditions. Michigan has been unfortunate and the target of multiple big raids. I covered a couple of these raids in earlier blog posts. The DOJ and DEA has stopped publicizing medical marijuana raids, refusing to distribute press releases and requesting that more cases be sealed under court order. Pretty much they want to continue the raids, but don't want us to know about them! They want to keep you in the dark.

President Obama said during the campaign that raids on medical marijuana dispensaries would end. Not only have they not ended, but they are now not publicizing medical marijuana raids.

Kris Hermes, spokesman for medical marijuana advocacy group Americans for Safe Access, was quoted saying "Either these are rogue DEA agents and U.S. Attorneys operating in violation of Holder's memo, or the DEA and the DOJ want to be able to go about continuing a policy of undermining state marijuana laws without drawing attention."

This news comes to light as a Michigan Court of Appeals Judge calls for clarity in the highly contested Michigan Marihuana Act. Judge Peter O'Connell stated the Michigan Marijuana Law is so confusing that users "who proceed without due caution" could "lose both their property and their liberty." Hopefully this mess of a law gets cleared up SOON.
