Michigan Criminal Attorneys

I have been following the news of this controversial case for awhile now.  It will have a major impact on future Michigan marijuana law.  You can find the original articles at the Lansing State Journal website.  Fredrick Wayne Dagit is being charged with possession of an illegal amount of medical marijuana with the intent to deliver.  If you are unaware, Dagit is the owner of a medical marijuana smoking club in Williamston, MI.  Despite owning the club, police and prosecutors say it's what happened in his home that got him in trouble.

If you are unfamiliar with the case, undercover police officers stated a police informant delivered 154 pounds of marijuana to Dagit's home in Okemos, MI.  The officers also stated the informant delivered about 71 pounds to his medical marijuana smoking club in Williamstown, MI.  Dagit's attorney issued a statement saying “There hasn’t been a shred of evidence that Mr. Dagit did anything other than provide the resource of marijuana for the caregivers and patients that were at his facility.”  Dagit does indeed have a Michigan medical marijuana card, and his defense according to his attorney is “but for the actions of government, Mr. Dagit never would have stored those 150 pounds in his home, it was their pot.”

This particular case as well as many others in the court system presently are vital in shaping how Michigan cases will be handled according to the newly established Michigan medical marihuana program passed recently.  I will try to keep you all updated as this case and others develop further!
